Brunei Prisons Department celebrate its Golden Jubilee | |

| Since the celebration of its Golden Jubilee in 2004, the Brunei Prisons Department has grown in its capacity and human resource from year to year in tandem with the current developments and progress, especially in meeting the norms and requirements as prescribed in the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules in The Treatment of Offenders. However, the roles and functions of the Brunei Prisons Department now face challenges of the future where it has to adjust its requirements and readiness to address the issue of non-traditional crimes and increased admissions. The situation also requires specialised facilities and rehabiliative approaches to manage inmates of the non-traditional crime categories. To meet these challenges, the Department has initiated strategic planning in 2005 to review and implement neccesary facilities for improved detention and restructuring its rehabiliation programmes facilitating for effective physical and spiritual rehabilitation including education programmes and development of vocational skills for new types of inmates. |
